    SRS Warning light help please

2002 D2 TD5. I took out my drivers seat today and broke the4 wires. Now I have a red SRS warning light on. The ingition lights seem to go throught the usual sequence with all on and then all off but then the SRS light comes back on. Reconnecting the brown and brown/red wires, that I think are for the seat belt warning, has not helped. The black and red/white wires appear to be surplus. The car still runs. Have I triggered a fault that needs a nancom to reset? How do I get the SRS light to go away?

You need a diagnostic tool to reset and clear the fault code.

    srs warning light

You don`t mention the thick yellow wire under the seat. That is the srs cable if the connection is faulty to the connector or if the cable is broken it will cause the srs to stay on.
If that is the issue making good the connection should work and it will reset.
Nanocom not needed to do this.

As Trev says, All SRS wiring is yellow, the under seat plug is a bit notorious for poor contacts. Use a electrical contact cleaner on it and check the metal tabs have sufficient tension to effect a circut. A mate bought a brand new D2a '04 model and it drove him and the dealer mad for like 6mths and it turned out to be a faulty plug!

One of the PO's of my D2 obviously had issues with SRS. The plugs have been removed completely and the wires have been soldered together. It's probably an effective fix but a complete PITA if you ever need to take the front seats out.

I'd like to find a source for the plugs so I can reinstate, but this would probably be useful for anyone who has intermittent contacts.

    cheers

The yellow plug under the seat (Seatbelt pretensioner) is usually the cause of these problems, I have repaired them by hard wiring/ soldering them together after someone had pushed a few big objects under the seat and ripped the wire out of the plug. Each time I have repaired the seatbelt pretensioner wirirng under the seats the lamp has gone out after doing its self check.

    Fixed - thanks

    Many thanks for the replies.
It seems the plug and socket under the seat was a bit loose.
There is no yellow wire, just a yellow sheath round the 2 wires.
What I do not understand, is why there is an SRS error if the plug and socket are disconnected?
As far as I can see it has nothing to do with air bags and appears to be some sort of check on seat belts. The seat belt light goes off whether I fasten my belt or not. Surely it is open circuit with the seat belt not plugged in, so why is unplugging under the seat any different?

The seat belt pretensioner contains a small explosive charge that fires to pull the seat belt tight when the airbags trigger. It's an essential part of the SRS system and is continually monitored for correct functioning.

The seat belt light is usually set to a short time delay and switches off after about 8 seconds.

According tmy RAVE there is no wiring connection btween seat belt warning lights and SRS.
In fact I do not think there is a seat belt connection wire only the big yellow wire to fire the pretensioner on a 2002 anyway.

    Philip,

You are correct - no relationship between SRS and the seatbelt lights.

The wiring diagrams are organised to show specific systems so the SRS wont show connections that aren't related to that function.

The buckle switches (which don't seem to work on mine) are part of the BCU wiring and can be found in that section of the wiring diagram.

Something else to add to my "must look at" list.

    cheers
    Paul
