Fit a Mp3 in place of CD Stacker in D2

    Hello Guys,
I have a Discovery 2 with a CD stacker under the Drivers seat.

Is there an easy way of fitting a Mp3 player (portable one like Ipod etc..)in place of the CD stacker. My player has the cassette player in the headunit and is held in by 4 small screws. I've looked on the internet for info but they were a little confusing.

    thanks
    Dave

If the head unit has as auxiliary jack you can plug the ipod into that. Alternatively get a new headunit with a cd player instead of the cassette deck and remove the stacker. A new head unit should have an aux jack & my new one has a usb port as well - I rip all my cds onto a usb thumb drive & use that.

If you can work out which 2 wires to the cd stacker carry the audio signal you can solder in a headphone jack to plug into your MP3 player I'd imagine. I did it with an old alpine head unit years ago like that.

Mate these days you can get a relatively inexpensive head unit that will talk to your iPhone/iPod over bluetooth and play all your music wirelessly. Pretty cool.

Then you can rip out the stacker and have space for a compressor or more storage under the seat.

Handsfree phone is a bonus too.

Grom Audio make a device the replaces the CD player under the seat, and you can plug in your iphone, other phone or MP3 player in. Depending on the device, you can then control it from the steering wheel controls.

I've fitted a GROM, wiggled it underneath the head unit inside the dash. It connects an Ipod classic that lives in the glovebox. Great setup and I still have the steering wheel controls and rear stereo controls. You can also fit a Bluetooth setup to the GROM and have everything integrated.

Only trick is that they only make the GROM for the alpine head unit. You could pick up one of those for very little money but it's hard to justify buying something so old.

Unless you really like the OEM look, you might be better off getting something aftermarket that will do everything in one.

    Oooooh, I'm interested.
Can you PM me the details of the unit? looking to upgrade

And if you can plug in the headphones into your ipod, you can put in a new head unit.
Tear out the Stacker, get a new head unit and enjoy your new underseat cubby
