Front diff whine
Serviced the disco yesterday, and having noticed a louder than usual whine from the front diff I topped up the oil which seemed very low- and today i found a pool of gear oil under the diff
It is leaking at a rapid rate from the rear side of the pumpkin (is this called the flange?), and I can only trace the issue to a front diff impact a couple of weeks ago on a track- I checked the diff at the time but it seemed fine, I'm guessing the knock has damaged the seal somehow and Ive been driving for perhaps 200-300 k's (only at speeds of 80 or less) with no oil
I now have a very nosiy diff, it sounds like a loud whine rather than a crunching or gravelly sound though. What is the likely damage? The centre? Or the crown and pinion wheel? I am happy to replace the centre with an ashcrfot tab or trutrac e.g.. Of course, as a minimum I need a new seal... any thoughts on whether to act on the diff straight away or to repair the seal and live with the whine/see how it goes?

there is no seal, just gasket goop, you may get away with disassembling and applying a new layer.
noise could be pinion bearings, had my rear ones replaced recently as think i landed on the rear diff offroad which caused my issues.
good luck.
