No need to take inlet manifold off

I have changed mine (3 hose) without taking the inlet manifold off. The hose that goes to the front of the block was the easiest part to remove and reinstall!! Don't even need a flange nut spanner, just use a 14mm spanner end on, IIRC. The bolt at the bottom of the unit was the PITA for me.

BTW: The time difference would between a 2 and three hose unit answers a question from some time ago. I was amazed how little time was being indicated by some people replacing the FPR. It appears that they were talking about the 2 hose unit, not the 3 hose.

I was just having a look at a few things on Topix and checked the time allowance for a FPR renew. This is the time Land Rover has determined the job will take and what dealers can claim for the job.

    19.45.06 Td5 Regulator - Pressure - Renew 1.0 hour

I've only got a temp subscription covering the 2000MY so I'm fairly sure this timing only applies to the EU2 regulator. The code refers to the procedure number in RAVE.

Did mine (2 hose unit) this afternoon. Used a gasket and o-ring kit from ebay, plus a bosch fpr unit, which cost about $60, and reused the original block. about 3 hrs, I would think, including perhaps a half hour of swearing while removing the bottom bolt. Also couldn't get the quick release hose to release quickly or slowly on the hose going to the fuel cooler, so just unbolted it at the fpr unit.

Been out for a drive to a party tonight (about 100km return) and so far so good.

I have seen references to a gauze filter, though, which I didn't seem to come across. Is this a D2a thing, or should there be one in there somewhere???

Edit: Just found an image of it - it's in the engine block itself? I'll assume then it stayed in there, as I had to force the o-ring out. There's been no fuelling issues, just diesel leaks, so missed opportunity to clean it, but prob not a problem at this stage.

Bugger. I've got a small diesel leak coming from the bottom bolt, and now its all back together, I just can't get a good grip on it with the socket.

On the other hand, while looking around, found some 'good news'. The fuel cooler is leaking coolant. This is good news because I've been losing water slowly, but steadily, and I've been trying to convince myself it wasn't a head gasket . Haven't been able to find a leak until now. So I think next weekend it'll be intake manifold off (to clean it post EGR removal), fuel cooler repair and snitch up that bolt on the FPR.

It sounds like your in for some fun with your D2. Mines the classic so it had the 3 hoses on it, I called one of the mechanics that people have mentioned above and he said he wouldn't touch it if his life depended on it lol so there was no way I was going to give it a go! Now I'm just working out if this was the whole problem with my economy issue or if there is something else going wrong lol it never seems to end at the moment
