    XYZ refit question

Have just pulled out the 03MY XYZ switch which was playing up and putting the auto into limp mode. Opened it up and adjusted the contacts (thanks to Aulro posts) and hoping it's working again, I am in the process of getting it back into place.

The RAVE procedure calls for a special tool, I noticed on the switch assembly there is a hole which must need to line up with a slot on the auto case? Is there a trick to doing that part with out the tool?

How exactly right does it all need to be?? A little concerned about getting it all lined up and would appreciate any tips as I know quite a few members have had their XYZ out... Thanks

    Hello,
Hard to describe. When i put mine back on I looked about where it was, I had marked the XYZ switch and housing, started it up then slight adjustments till you get all the red lights coming on when the lever is in that gear, if no red lights then it is not right.

If unsure about where it was before hand start at one extreme of the bolt slots and slowly work the switch around that until all the right lights come on in each lever positon when you've tightened it up.

Ok thanks, that helps a lot- I've fitted the switch retaining bolts so I'll get them tight enough to still wiggle the switch and play with it until all the lights come on for each gear.

Easy to do with 2 people one at the lever in car and one underneath moving the switch. The light may come on the lever, but check the vehicle actually starts in Neutral and park as it could be out by a smidgeon.

Success! Got the switch back on after a few false starts, mainly due to the confusing RAVE procedure- for anyone doing this fix ignore RAVE when it tells you to put the selector in the N position before refitting the switch- leave the selector in P (as it is when you pull the switch off) and put the XYZ in the P position by rotating the centre of the switch fully clockwise, which is how I finally got everything back together. Did the bolts up and bingo, spot on. No more M&S lights flashing. Incidentally I have had to use cable ties in place of the rivets, that is all that is available for now. Seems to have worked fine, and certainly I've saved quite a few $$ if it lasts....
