Correct, they would, but if they are buying them as greatly reduced wholesale prices and including imports, then it's not an even playing field.
And any one within a moulding industry would realise it doesn't cost much per item to turn out on a production line in volume. How much do you reckon these $199 Chinese specials actually cost to make? some one is making good money on these.

I used to work for a tier one supplier to Jaguar, Land Rover, Peugeot and others, and we supplied moulded/painted/assembled exterior plastic parts, such as bumpers.

We used to sell complete, painted bumpers to Peugeot (I use that example as it's roughly a similar plastic volume and plastic type) for £29. And we clearly made money on that sale. A plain plastic moulding for a snorkel is going to much less than that.

And national stores such as ARB or TJM or Opposite Lock would be unable to get the same wholesale prices from Safari Snorkels that the UK organisations can get?

Either way we are being ripped off by the sellers. Either at Safari's end or at the retailers end.

I would love to see some pictures of engines consuming snorkels past the air filter too..!!!:p. Must be getting hard to sell safari if that's the line they're using .

It is a numbers game with a lot of items like this, you get price breaks depending on number of units bought, UK resellers an naturally going to have a much higher volume due to having a larger market compared to OZ resellers.

It is not a matter of Australian resellers trying to rip off their market it is that they do not get a big enough price break them selves to sell at the same price of overseas resellers and still make enough money to stay in business.

A snorkel is a one off purchase that should outlast the car.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more snorkels on 4x4's here in 'outback Australia' than there are in 'built up Britain'.

High Australian dollar plays a part in all this. The average Australian does not see 1AUD being worth more or less one day to the next. Stronger dollar, but same familiar prices.

Look at it from Safari Snorkels Perspective. Over the past decade as AUD has got much stronger the retail price in Australia has become more valuable whilst appearing to stay the same. Expenses for manufacture would have gone down, especially if imported (SSnokrs made in china?). Without having to do much, profits rise and sales remain steady. So why would manufacturer/reseller lower the prices and reduce their profit when the snorkels are still selling?

This is a case of supplier and reseller working together to get as much profit out of the product as they can in any given market. In the UK you couldn't sell them at the price you can sell them here. Australians are willing to pay more.

All good mate, Thanks for the clarification. As I understood it, you ment the plastic of the snorkel had broken down and gone through the engine. As it is quiet obvious to me the air filter sits between the engine and the snorkel, this is just not possible.

I felt I was being told a left handle hammer cost more than a right handled hammer because left handled hammers are better. Noit only would that be offensive for someone to tell me that and while I have no problem with having a joke with someone to expect a less experinced person to pay more simply because they dont know is just as wrong.

Hmmm not sure that I'm not offended..the post sent was directed to me and clearly states " fall apart from the inside and go through your engine" . No mention of water .Claims also to have seen it happen. Well in 30 odd years as a diesel mechanic I've never seen it. send a photo please . I will stand by my later posted comment about it.
