Sounds ominous! even though replaced with greasable UJ ,a check might be in order! chirps are bad!
Trev.
Hi guys
Hoping the brains-trust can help me out here.
The Td5 manual has started to chirp! ... but only when changing down down gears and decelerating.
It's sounds like its coming from underneath the vehicle.
The front prop shaft was replaced 35000kms ago with a greasable unit.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Craig

are you double clutching down or syncro shifting,
if your double clutching down it might be the clutch or input bearing however I really thing you'll find that its the center support bearing of the aligning spigot of the DC.
It could also be the exhaust manifold but if its doing it on deceleration its unlikely to be that unless the engine torquing over is pulling on the manifold (which would probably also mean your engine mounts are soft and your exhaust mounts have hardened.)

Chirp chirp is most likely the Cardon joint.
Run along a highway with a centre barrier and window down. If you can hear it chirping ....................

Could it be the crankshaft pulley? Generally the propshaft chirp I found to be on acceleration or if some load was applied to it. You're saying its under deceleration.
Thanks for your quick responses guys!
Definitely on deceleration and when syncro shifting down gears. No noise ... that I can hear on the free-way at speed or when accelerating.

get under and eyeball the DC, give it a shake and push it hard in the center of the DC coupler. IF it moves and clicks change it pronto.
