Talk about a labour of love

Well it's 8 months since I upgraded from a D1 to a D2a and I just love the vehicle but boy does it love a few dollars thrown at it.
A few months after purchasing I had to replace the fuel line from the pump to the injectors. It was a recall item but no longer covered. Local LR dealer wanted $300 plus to replace it (parts only) with a new 'set' of lines, I explained that I only needed one line but guess what ????? they dont sell them singularly. I went to Purtek and purchased the right line and then changed over the LR ends and "hey presto" all done. COST ??? less than $20.

Next I realised that my high/low detect switch wasn't working, on checking found that the wire had seperated inside the sender switch. LR wanted over $200 for the part. Bought it OEM for just over $60.

I took the ECU out on an impulse and found the first signs of oil on the base of the red connector. Cleaned it out but a new injector loom and cover gasket are on the way for that.

Next was the double cardian joint on the way back from Fraser a few weeks back didn't bother getting a price from LR, just took the shaft off and sorted it out.

Also on the way back from Fraser we dropped into limp mode a few times and it would appear that perhaps the XYZ switch is on the way out so that will need to be sorted very soon. While I am dooing that I will extend the A/C hoses that probably contributed to both the XYZ and cardian problems.

WOW, I'm getting to know my Disco arent I ?'

A group of us are off to the CREB, Starcke and Maytown tracks in about a month, need it all sorted by then.

    Cheers, Rick.

Sounds like a few little niggles, nothing too bad...

I've spent more on other vehicles - sons Pathfinder, Falcons, Commodores etc..

Its just the nature of older vehicles unfortunately. There will always be a reason the last owner sold it.. Often something quite insignificant....

I just did a pre trip check on the Disco, found a whole lot of stuff that could have bit me in the bum when doing the Holland track in June.
Leaking radiator, leaking exhaust gasket and now 2 broken studs, noisey fan idler bearing and tensioner bearing. So now the garage looks like a wreckers yard!

Looked at it as an omen and good chance to get some of the little leaks done and replace things like radiator hoses that would be awkward to do on the side of the road.

Better to find it now than while on holiday!

Agree with this as it's not just a Land Rover thing. Any car coming up to or over 10 years old will need parts replacing... Our 2007 X-Trail has had a few things done this past year.

Car makers aim for 8-10 year life span hence the Service Books dont go for longer. After 10 years your just keeping cars going!
