    D2a, Violent Rocking over bumps

My D2a has a tendancy to rock violently from side to side when going over bumps or over a kerb obliquely. It can get quite tiresome when going over undulating ground with small washouts etc. I have been in other 4WDs (Pajero, Prado etc) that dont seem to suffer from the same issue.

The D2a has standard height King springs with original shocks, the shocks having done 190,000km.

Can replacement shocks cure this problem? (I'm looking at Bilsteins from the USA.) Or is it just that the D2, with its high body and steel roof is susceptable to rocking?

    Cheers,

With 190,000km on your original shockers im pretty sure they have had it.Put some new ones in and you will notice the difference straight away.

X2 the shocks. Any decent suspension shop should be able to test them for you and advise if you are unsure. Alternatively give each corner a good push down and see how many conciliations it takes to settle. My memory is rusty but should be only 1 or 2 at worst if they are ok.

My D1 got to 200,000 on the original shocks, and they were stuffed. They were so bad that I could compress them by hand with no effort once I'd removed them.

If you are still on the original shocks, I would suggest that there is a very good chance that you will need bushes too. Taking it to a suspension shop will give you the answer.

Yep, done the bounce each corner test. I suspect the fronts are not too bad but the rears are stuffed. A test will generally settle after one bounce but there is an ongoing rocking that will last for another 4-6 oscillations before settling.

Are you referring to shock or suspension bushes?

I also think the D2 does naturally rock a lot from side to side. I hadn't driven a D2 for about 6 years ( had theRangie during that time) but when I bought another ond this year, I realised I had forgotten how much it rocked when offroad and I have new shocks all round.
