EGR mod and new thermostat... Done

    Afternoon all,

Just wanted to thank a couple of people in particular.

Ian (justfishing) for the advice and the use of your nanocom yesterday morning. A big help for the jobs I did yesterday and today. Awesome!!

Blknight in the swich SEQLD for his coke bottle technique for putting coolant in and getting it to the right level EASILY!!

One other forum user who I can't remember his name who said to check the new thermostat before installing to make sure it worked. Doing that then gave me a measure when I got the old one out to see if there was any difference. Not sure my wife liked me using the kettle and some bowls in the kitchen with the old dirty thermostat but all went well.

Earlier in the week I had my temp gauge dropping while driving around normally.

And so I got some replies after starting a thread and doing a bit of a search, and I contacted Ian who isn't too far from me who had offered the use of his nanocom to troubleshoot. After discussing the problem with Ian and buying his spare thermostat sitting in a box (saved me from buying from interstate or driving all around Perth) I cleaned my MAF, airbox and MAP sensors yesterday, installed my EGR mod kit that had arrived from the uk and changed my thermostat out today.

Interestingly after plugging Ian's nanocom in there was not one fault logged. Surprised Ian and I didn't really know what to think. I guess that's good. I have owned the vehicle for a couple of years now, I have had a oil line go and had to limp into a town towing a trailer after camping and also do the same after discovering a dodgy repair to a coolant line the same way. I would have thought there would have been a couple of faults for over temping from both of those. I remember the temp gauge going through the roof when the oil line went.

Anyway. I didnt leave too much knuckle skin in the engine bay and i have a satisfied smile on my face, I have touched a couple of pieces of wood before saying the next line. All seems to have gone well.

The best thing is that I would never have tackled these jobs without this forum. Im happy building a trailer, making a deck or tiling a bathroom or installing a roof or making furniture or putting fences up and a hundred other things. understanding engines and carrying out mechanical repairs on cars has never been a strong point. Such a huge advantage to be able to search for info and also ask questions and get answers from people who have done it before and have worked out the best way and have put photos up as well.

Another bonus is that spending time under the bonnet makes me understand more of what is happening there and what some of the bits I keep reading about are and where they live... and also gives me a bit of confidence to carry out repairs if something does go wrong.

Big thumbs up for AULRO from me.

    Craig.
