    is my MAF stuffed.

    Hi everyone

Can anyone please tell me whether my MAF sensor is stuffed or not....

The cars symptoms are as follows.
    1) when the car is cold, around 2700rpm it surges up to 3000 rpm, once it is warm it doesnt do it anymore

    2) The auto wont change into top gear sometimes, stays in third and as i do a lot of driving over 80kmh, it is very annoying to be doing 3000rpm down the freeway.

    4) the car revs harder before the auto changes and my sister who drives a triton manual says my land rover is gutless..... and she is pretty right, noit the same get up and go...

Any advice would be appreciated as it is starting to really bug me....

    Thanks everyone

if you have a multimeter that can read up to 20megaohms plus resistance, you can check the resistance between the pins on the MAFs electrical connector. Can't remember offhand exactly what the readings should be, something like 20k ohms pins 1&2, 16M ohms pins 1&3 and 2&3. There are other threads that will give you the proper readings.
PS make sure your multimeter goes high enough - my old one didn't, so I mis-diagnosed a dud MAF, so I now have a spare in the shed.
