    TD5 Front Silencer Replacement

    Hi,

I suspect I'm up for a new front silencer. There's quite a rattle coming from within it and lately I notice that the car is taking that bit longer to spool up and seems down a bit on power.

It's a manual TD5 and it's a daily driver but tows a heavy camper trailer a couple of times a year on long trips.

Now the straight through pipe seems to be well recommended, but I've heard a few people say that the noise increase sounds great for round town (and scares kids!) but it bothersome for towing.

Any recommendations from the crowd here? Straight through, or a performance exhaust? And if the latter, which one?

    Cheers

Mine rattled it self to death. I replaced it with a straight thru bit of pipe.
It has made no real difference in how noisy things are. There is still a muffler and the rear resonator to keep the noise down.

I will be removing the muffler at some stage though. As the noise while driving even with the exhaust disconnected at the turbo isnt that loud when your at speed.
So for me the extra responsiveness at low speeds will be worth it.

I am looking at one of these.

Not a bad price. Also seen them for $140 more.

Won't solve your muffler issues - it's the section from the turbo to the front muffler.

Really? just as well I didn't order it.... It looked like it went all the way from the diagram.

Might be a call to midas then...

I thought by front. You meant the catalytic converter. As it looks like a muffler.
    Sorry my bad.

That one you linked. Replaces from turbo to big muffler.
If you look around there site or roverparts. They do a stainless replacement for the muffler also.
I wish I had just brought online. As the local exhaust shop charged me a fortune just to replace that first section and that was with mild steel.

I tryed doing that but found no noticable difference in power,Nice note but the droning was annoying so i tryed a straight through muffler in the middle section and removed the resonator and replaced it with a straight pipe.Wow better note Fixed the droning and seems to go a harder
