Thread: Help- door stuck closed

Im about 1500kms away from a Disco at the moment but im thinking you should be able to remove the weather strip at the top of the door. You know the one that is held onto the door by the metal clips and you have to be careful when removing it that you dont put kinks in it. The one with the rubber seal thats seperate to the door skin.

Once you have removed it you should be able to use a torch to look down the door cavity. If you put the window down you can at least investigate. I would imagine the little metal rods have come out of the plastic tabs (guessing here) as i havent looked at one for a while.

You might even be able to use a straightened metal coat hanger to push rods back in or hook onto to open the door. Now i cant remember what guards or shields the disco has in place when looking down from the top so that might not help at all.

Worth a try anyway and im sure there will be others with different ideas.

That's a great start, I know the rubber piece you mean. I'll unclip it when I get home and see from there- likely to just be a plastic clip on a rod somewhere so hopefully I can get at it

One other thing i thought of, wrap your straightened coat hanger tip in electrical tape or something like that, as when pulling or flicking it around you dont want to scratch your window/tint.

Ok so removed the top trim (interior side) of the door, gained access to the outdoor handle rod that links to the actuator but no luck playing with that. The problem seems to be at the actuator/lock itself, and access to that is very limited. PITA. Anyone had this before? Solutions?

I've had a bit of a poke and prod as well, withour success. will have a go tomorrow with my tongue held in various positions and share which one works ; )

My drivers door has been playing up since our Easter trip.
To get out I've found pulling and holding on the main handle/armrest before pulling the opening handle seems to work.
I haven't got around to looking at it yet

Just a quick thought - and I'm sure you have tried this - have you pulled the internal opener twice in quick succession? Like you have to when you accidentally push the plastic "button/knob?" down with your arm when driving, then you go to get out and and the door doesn't open. Not so good if you've put the window up and bang head on glass :P
This has worked for me when the tailgate latch froze and I had to use a coat hanger through the cargo barrier to access the internal lever!

I assume that the door has been successfully unlocked ie the button is up on the problem door? if it is, then what can happen with the actuator to prevent the door opening is that the vertical rod from the outside door handle to the actuator has either got stuck or got out of adjustment, which means when you pull the door handle the arm on the actuator will not recieve it's full travel and so the door catch will not be released. A work around is to disconnect the vertical rod from the external door handle to the actuator and push down the arm on the actuator to open the door. I've only done this with the trim removed though.
