Wont lock and alarm is on continuously

Hi, I have been working on my SII for about a month, yesterday I reconnected the battery today I tried to start it, flat battery.

Charged the battery then started it, first go, but after about 15 seconds the alarm went off, I pressed the lock button but it did not stop the alarm.

The bonnet is open, it is raining and the front is just out in the weather, I have disconnected the two horns to cut out the din, I held the bonnet button down and tried to lock the doors again to no avail.

The door locks will not operate even with the key, when trying to lock there is a faint buzz sound from a canister on the bulkhead NS that I have not heard before.

I can only presume that there is something else I need to do?

    HELP

    Maybe the inertia switch?

If you are standing in front of the car, looking at the engine, on the right hand side, mounted on the firewall, is a small, black thingo.

Press this down & see if it resets, then try again.

OR, it is unlikely, but possible one of the cables to it have rubbed thru???

    Black thingy

Ta, pressed it and it definitely moved down, but, still nothing happened. Press the unlock button the lights flash but the car is already unlocked, press the lock button the Black Thingy gives a strangled beep.
Pressed the BT again but no movement.
I must say the car has been standing in rain all day with some of it going under the open bonnet.
This morning the A/C fan was running, I spilled water over the fuse block last night when filling the radiator bottle.
I think when the rain stops I need to get the air blower out along with the WD or CRC.
Any more ideas I'm willing to try, thanks all.

    Inertia switch

Going on with the black thingy, if it has been wet will disconnecting it take it out of the system or will that merely ensure it is seen as a fault?

Battery charge or faulty battery is a possible problem, are you sure you fully charged your battery? The BCU takes some time to be activated once you've hooked up the battery, and if the battery isn't fully charged it won't be reading your fob signal. Try charging again or test with multimeter to rule that out

    Battery good

Thanks, the battery is good, 800CA and now fully charged, engine starts instantly.

The inertia (black thingo) beeps when trying to lock, nothing else happens, horns are disconnected but the alarm sounds the moment I reconnect one.

Apart from not having the horn working am I likely to have further problems if I drive the car?

As I have been working in the engine bay and have de-greased the bay could I have wet something that is causing this problem?

The LAST ONE on this matter!!!

Dunno what I did, either to cause the problem nor to rectify it.

Tonight I decided that as this problem arose after disconnecting the battery I would again disconnect the battery and re-connect in a different sequence, see if that made any difference.

Before doing that I locked the doors with the dash switch, (I had tried that before and knew it would work), and checked that they would unlock properly, they did. So I tried locking them with the remote and they locked.

I re-connected the horns and they did not sound, I will start the car in the morning, say around 0730 just in case the alarm does go off again, figure if I'm up, the rest of the neighborhood should be too.

The only thing I can think of is that whilst I was working under the bonnet something got damp causing something the problem.

Thanks to the guys the tried to help, there is no doubt that I will keep your advice in mind for the furure just in case, it's certainly something I did not know before.

I would change the battery in the remote just to make sure that everything is communicating as best as it could be.

When I first bought my disco the alarm went off a couple of times even though I had used the remote or used the key in the door. It only settled down until the remote battery was changed.
