Mine is like this too.
I read somewhere they're designed that way so that the pedal feel is smooth and chauffeur like, or something![]()
My 99 Td5's brake pedal has a bit of freeplay is this normal?
The pedal is held up by the spring but there is about 5mm movement before I can feel it is actually starting to move the rod/shaft. I am not talking when the brakes actually start to work.
I have unclipped the brake pedal at the rod and I cannot see any wear anywhere, it's almost as if the play is designed to be there??? After 200 000km I suppose everything cannot be expected to operate as it did when new. I just find it a bit annoying as it also make a click as it takes up the play.

I think the "Chauffeur Stop" Relates to the application of the brakes as you push slowly on them, The brake application of the boost is slow and progressive ,Like a good chauffeur driver does so as to make his clients not spill their bubbly or cocktails from the on board drinks cabinet! But if you stab the pedal it applies hard and causes the ABS to chatter! Mine has 230000K on the clock and there is no click in the pedal that I have noticed.
