    Auto query

Got a issue surfacing on the D2a V8.

It doesn't show the N symbol on the dash when in neutral, rather flashes it when moving from N to D. The motor is in neutral, just no gear indication.

Whats more worrying is sometimes it doesn't show D either unless I wiggle the stick, and if its bit showing it, it sticks in 1 and won't change up.

I'm assuming it could be either the XYZ switch on the way out, or worse the whole auto box.

    Ideas?

I have almost exactly the same problem on Charlie. Rarely see N and if working hard can loose D in the instrument cluster. Mechanics diagnosis was xyz switch, but as the box is behaving well otherwise I am not worrying about it too much. Will sort it out later in the year.

Most likely the xyz I think? Not from experience but that's what controls the red lights/dash indicator, so likely culprit. Check mounting bolts are firm (10mm) and maybe disconnect multiplug and check it's clean, (think someone had this issue and a dirty multiplug was the problem from memory). After that maybe try and adjust switch position- or take switch off and clean up and refit.

I noticed moving car to hook up camper this morning that it found neutral okay. It seems to occur more with a hot car (off-roading).

I have done mud, water and a lot of sand the past 2 weeks. Good chance some connections are dirty now. Will check when I get home next week. Thanks.
