    Replacement diffs

Just wondering if any one can tell us....
Ive just installed another replacement front diff head on the inlaws series II Td5
as the last one fitted about 5000k failed!!!!! due to a faulty roll pin that holds the spiders gear main pin in place fell out, the main pin hit the crown wheel and the spider gears jumped around having a wee dance!!, ouch!!..not happy...
the diff head (part only)has been replace under warranty by the supplier.....
We also found a fear amount of wear/fine fine metal on the rear diff magnetic drain bung, this was a worry!!, so Ive pulled it out, no signs of any major wear on crown wheel, pinion or spider gears, cannot see the bearings very well but there is not alot a back lash or any bearing play either, It all looks ok!!
any suggestions? normal wear and tear? the oil was replace 5000k ago too
We have been given two front diffs, one used already, both are fitted with the same four bolt front flange,
My question on this is, can I simply change over the four bolt flange for the rear three hole drive flange and use the same diff head, they look the same!!
same ratio, same pinion seal?????not to sure.
anyone done this before?? are they the one and the same diff head?
    Cheers Dazza.

You should be able to swap over the flange to the roto-flex style.

Another option would be to get a propshaft from a late D1 or early RRC that has the four bolt, u-joint style at both ends.

I would recommend you do swap the 3 bolt flange over as it relieves a lot of driveline vibration.

As far as I'm aware the front and rear Disco2 diffs are the same apart from the flange. The hemisphere however was an upgrade on the other Rover type diffs.
    Cheers
