And put your Hi Lo lever into neutral while you top up and your other half moves through the gears.

Well I cant say it was an unmitigated success but I think I have done it. I read so much on it, it all got a bit confusing....or maybe I got confused. Anyhoo, when I took off the fill in plug, all this oil poured out.........everywhere. I looked like one of those poor birds you see after an oil spill. So I waited till it started to subside and started the pumping. Talk about a work out, my arms are rooted.

Finally once it started to overflow, replugged it and started Smokey and went through the gears ( plus into neutral on my Hi Lo lever. Did that a few times and with engine running, unplugged and kept filling till it was really overflowing and replugged it. Went through gears again and then went for a short drive. No issues.

So any potential issues from what I have done and anything to look out for/ signs of a potential screw up? Thanks again for all the advice, first time I have played mechanic and despite from the mess I just had to clean up, a wee bit chuffed that I managed that ,

    Regards

    Stevo

Should be no issues from what you've done

I am assume you mean from the refill process. No problems from what you have done. btw: I put a hose through the lid to the bottom of the oil container and long enough to go to the transmission. Also have an air valve in the lid that I use to control the flow. Hook up an air compressor to the valve. Air in, oil flows out. Air compressor off, no flow. Simple and relatively clean.

You need to have it running while refilling. It may be a little low as from the sounds of it you filled and then went through the gears.

First drain it, then refit drain plug and fill while turned off (this ensures there's enough fluid not to cause damage to the auto). Then start and top up, then run through gears and top up again. My specialist who rebuilt my auto recommended having the front raised about 10" about ramp height) to get a bit more fluid in. I trust him as he's run 4HP's behind 600HP and 6HP's with up to 1000HP. I've found that after some running the fluid actually ends up at the right level and could be topped up again, guess it's purging air from somewhere.

Also have been running Penrite Sin ATF (which is renamed something similar now) and it's great.
