    Exclamation D2 TD5 engine shut while driving

    Hi guys my D2td5 disco died the other day in the middle of road while driving..
    It didnt make any noise just a shut down of the engine, but power was still on...
    Attempted to restart..Engine some times turns over and runs of a second before stopping, but most times just turns over and doest fire...No unusual lights appear to the dash board
    A few faults appeared on the nanacom
    -noisy crank sensor
    -injector 2,3 & peaking
    injector 1 and 5 open circuit

    Things iv done since i got it home was
    -new fuel pump
    -new crank sensor (no longer appearing as a fault)
    -new main battery

    The timing chain turnes over on when cranked over...
    Fuel is running to the fuel cooler...
    No sure what path to follow next???????

    Have you checked for oil in the ECU connector?
    What is the immobiliser light doing in the center of the dash?

    Ye no immobiliser light comes on the dash
    And no oil in ecu plug...
    Strange stuff

    As you have a nanocom it may be worth checking all the security settings in the BCU.

    Do you have all the light on as normal when turning the ignition on?

    What faults are current?, crank sensor cleared now?

    All the lights light up as normal on the dash, even when cranking it over...
    Noisy crank no longer appears... It was extremely dirty when I pulled it out..
    I might need to check the condition on the loom wire?
    Would the bcu setting cause it shut while driving?

    Just because there is no oil at the ecu red plug doesnt mean the injector harness is not faulty. I replaced mine (no oil at ecu) runs better than ever and I have great fuel economy again.
    Injector 1 and 5 open circuit. you report, likely faulty harness.

    As far as I am aware the only thing that will stop the Td5 when in motion is the crank sensor, all other faults should be logged but not a show stopper, there may be oil present in the injector loom, pull the connector off the head and check there, it would have to be fairly sodden to stop it dead, have you been having any misfiring or other symptoms prior to this?

    It is strange that you are no longer getting a fault from the crank sensor, indicating that the circuit is good

    It may be worth checking the BCU setting as it is not unheard of for random changes be made for no apparent reason

    The fact that it sometime fires and then not has me pointing toward the crank sensor though - did you replace with new, fit the spacer?, it would be a good idea also to check the wiring loom and connector on the circuit.

    I brought a genuine one, what's the spacer? What should the bcu setting be? No misfires, might have been driving a bit quick...burning extra fuel

    When replacing the injector harnes, is it replacing any injectors?

    No need to touch the injectors when replacing harness, it just plugs in each injector insitu. New rocker cover gasket is required too. Open circuit reading means almost certainly faulty harness or connections.
