have you got a really really good multimeter or a CRO?
Hi
I have a 2003 TD5 auto with 230 on the clock and have a problem !!!
Last week the engine started to play up it was like it was misfiring,
I thought it could have been oil in the loom so it was replaced and the oil cleaned out of connectors both ends there was not much at the ECU end but it was there.
When It's restarted it sounds like its running on 3 cylinders, Takes a long time to fire, very rough, no throttle response and was shut down straight away. Tried again same result
Is it possiable to get error codes read by some other means ? with out Nanocom or Hawkeye.
I am in Griffith NSW and a long way from anywhere or any one.
I am thinking ( From research ) Possible crank angle sensor or injectors maybe and is there a way to check without the error codes?
Anyone got any idea's or suggestions ?
Thanks in Advance
Mick

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
Have you looked at the fuel filter or had the pump checked?
Might be lack of fuel flow.
a digital sampling multi meter that when used in conjuction with a laptop can duplicate the functionality of a low end crow.
you need to be able to read the resistance and pulse count from the crank angle sensor, the pinout is in the RAVE.

For the fuel pump I usually check the flow rate at the fuel cooler hose.
Any success yet?
This recent thread came to mind while thinking of your issue...

I will check the fuel tomorrow, Thanks for the tip
I had read that thread a while back I will be double checking all the wires now as I am starting to pull at strings.
BLKNIGHT
the multi meter I have doesn't have the capability it's still on the cheaper side. I think I will replace the sensor anyway and if its not that at least I will have a spare.
I am going to call a mate tomorrow.
He is a mechanic so hopefully he can shed some light.
I'll keep you informed of any progress
Thanks Mick
So after checking the fuel at the cooler nothing, even when winding the engine over, checked it at the filter and nothing, all fuses and relays are ok.
I will be pulling the trim and carpet up in the back to check for power at the plug into the pump but it looks like the fuel pump is the problem.
Must have been slowly dying but its quite dead now.
Stay tuned.
Can you still hear the fuel pump running ? If not check the inertia switch under the bonnet on passenger side firewall. It has a black rubber top - press that in.
Hi all
Sorry for the delay. All is well new fuel pump is fitted.
For those that are interested I purchased it form Brookwells in the UK
Cost me $435 for the pump (seimens brand) and a fuel water sensor for the filter and postage
Thanks again
Mick
