    Engine cover bolts

Hi guys. Upon checking me engine earlier this week I discovered that I only had one bolt holding the engine cover on my td5. Are these bolts readily available from auto places or are they a specialist land rover item. I am currently in Darwin about to head to kakadu. I removed the cover earlier this week but as I am on my third week of a three month trip I need to replace it as I have nowhere to store it

    Cheers

    Paul.

Interested to know, I've got mine off atm as it's missing one bolt. Was making a whole bunch of shocking noises so it's sitting in the shed atm.

if you're talking about the acoustic cover...

chuck it and dont worry about the bolts.

dont forget to take the back panel off of the head while you're at it

Or if you don't subscribe to Dave's school of Gonzo Mechanicing and Maintenance...

    The part number is LYG000230.

They are cheap enough to replace - under $4.00 each but you'll need to source from a dealer or LR specialist.

Where do I enrol in the Gonzo Mechanics School?

    Enrolment requirements?

I noticed one of mine missing the other day when I took it off.

It was tucked into a little nook between a coolant pipe and the rocker cover.

I'm going to spend the $4 I've saved on something else like a second set of rims + muddies!

It's Microcat that is the source of these obscure part numbers I take it?

That was school in the sense of "a group of people sharing similar ideas or methods".

And yes. Microcat is where you find part numbers.

    acoustic cover bolts

The bolts are a standard metric thread either M7 or 8 don`t recall at the moment, the only difference is they are plain shank for about half their length where they go through the rubber grommets.
at a pinch a normal bolt around 50mm will do.If it is a bit too long put some spacers behind the head.
Usually if people have trouble it is the Drivers side with the captive nut which comes loose.
Quick temp. fix is threading a cable tie through and around the fitting to stop the cover rattling.
