This manual one I drove was worse than my 1hz when it was off boost. I found it real painful to drive as I was running with full throttle off boost, then around 2000rpm the boost kicked in and it took off - only needed 1/2 throttle from then on. Vs the auto I drove, I never needed to use more than 1/2 throttle for the same acceleration even from a standing start.

To back up what others have said...I've had both and only a few months ago sold my manual to make way for the County - I still have the auto.
Now I'm not comparing apples with apples, the auto has a mild 140 kW chip and bigger intercooler, the manual had an unknown kW chip but I would say big numbers and 3" exhaust. It was a rocket ship and I do kind of miss it for that ;).
I really had no sense of lag below the dreaded 1800 rpm in the manual... the auto can sometimes be awful - some occasions are worse than others, I've not worked out why. I'm hoping to put a VNT and 3" exhaust on once the County's a bit more sorted.
Bottom line - I think there may be other factors affecting the manual you drove, it shouldn't feel less responsive low down IMO. Maybe the MAF needs a good clean!

It's a bit "oh ****!" when it occurs with a stream of traffic bearing down on you.
Mine is TD5 auto almost stock.
Has stainless straight through exhaust and a new turbo in it. It is running standard wheels and goes very well. Off the mark and in sports mode, if I compare it to my wifes new Volvo XR5 motor in the Ford Kuga, then it performs very well indeed.
Ive also never had my foot down to the floor, as it hasn't been needed, and I will admit that I can sometimes be impatient.
I also have 2 big 90kg Mastinos , so do not have any rear seats in it, which takes away some weight.
Im guessing as of next week the lag will be worse when I get my 235x85x16s on it, but that leaves room for a chip and new diff ratios if needed.

OT, you're right, there are certain instances when it is most apparent - I have tried to quantify when these occur in an effort to pinpoint contributing factors, but failed due to inconsistent data or inconsistent memory :p.Quote:
