    confused td5 injectors

    Hi All,
i am in the process of changing my td5 injector seals, got them out ok thanks to the great tutorial by Psimpson.

There is one step that i cant get my head around. i have searched the threads but am still not sure what to do.

It is mentioned that i need to crank the engine over with the injectors out, this clears any fuel that has drained down into cylinders, and avoids hydraulic lock.

does this mean by turning the ignition key or with the breaker bar. I'm presuming that it is the key as one of the steps was to remove the fuel pump fuse.

there was mention of putting disco into 5th gear and rocking to manually turn engine by hand. i tried this but nothing seemed to happen.

i'm not sure what i'm looking for as a result...being honest!

the cam pin is out as i had to rotate cam to get injectors out.

    any advise would be appreciated

    cheers
    Pete

Yes turn it over on the starter.

It only needs a quick spin, and you'll get a nice puff of fuel vapour.

The rocking is most likely to do with setting the bump adjustment on the injectors. I used a breaker bar and socket on the crank damper pulley.

There are marks on the end of the camshaft that indicate the peak of each lobe, but most people just eye ball it.

    Cheers
    Paul

Don't forget to remove the fuel pump relay before you crank it over.

Thanks for that Gask, i removed the relay under the bonnet...I'm hoping that's the one you mean.

you can't recommend anyone on south coast for a head rebuild can you mate...hopefully injector seals will fix problem, but if not will need to start sorting out plan B (fingers Crossed)

    cheers

Yes, the relay in the fuse/relay box under the bonnet. Might be worth talking to Everlast Engines in Albatross Rd South Nowra - I haven't used them for head work but did use them to machine my TD5 exhaust manifold.
