If it has a TD5 motor look further up.
Check the rear 1/2 moon of the rocker cover, a known leaker
Also check the fuel regulator, they leak a fuel/oil mix over the stater and down the area you've indicated.
Dear Forum,
an annoying oil leak where transmission joins engine(?) as shown in the attached photos.
I would appreciate any ideas as to where to look.
I have cleaned around the area but there is no obvious trail.

Just had injector harness replaced, gasket seems fine.
I'll check the regulator.
Not just the gasket under the rocker cover - the round black plug at the rear of the head. Either use your hand or a mirror to see what we're on about. It's only 5 or so cms in diameter. I think it's the cam shaft cover. Do a google image search for Td5 cam shaft cover. There's some interesting reading in this thread if you're new to the LR Td5.
The other leak I'd experienced - that looked exactly like where your drips are evident - was due to a leaky front diff pinion seal.
The diff oil was being thrown up the driver side of the engine by the rotation of the front propshaft and mixing with all the crud there and appeared to be coming from the mid area of the block. As the diff oil ran down the engine it darkened and looked to the untrained eye/nose to be engine oil.

And this is another thread that is incredibly useful in getting your head around the Td5, from the inside out as it were.
I think I learnt more about my Td5 in a couple of hours with that thread than via any other means.
Edit: I just flipped through a page or two of that thread and it truly sends shivers down my spine when I see the guts of the engine and the massive potential for things to go wrong...all the more reason to treat it well.![]()
Checked that rear round cover, looks OK. Gave the fuel regulator area a good clean. Nothing obvious, however from where would the fuel leak - from the pipe connections or the diaphram? May need to use a mirror to check?
