My D2a is a write off

With 285k on the clock my D2a is a write off. I bought it at 200k with little or no off road use, and it has been used for a lot of touring since then- I'd estimate 45 of the 85k i did was off road (Vic High Country, outback Vic, Cape York, Savannah Way, Gibb River Rd and countless other smaller trips) and I've lived in Arnhem land for the past 2 years. Roads are often very rough here, however they can be great too when the road crews come through. On my last trip out of Arnhem land I had nearly made it out when I hit a washout pretty hard, not at great speed. Bit later I stopped to investigate a noise, only to find the front rhs shock mount had cracked off the chassis- limped out of Arnhem doing 20km/h then once on the bitumen got it to Darwin ok. I had a quote for the repair but the insurer reckons the chassis rail is cracked and they want to write it off... I had mixed feelings, it's been a great car. In all that travel it never stranded me, in fact never missed a beat really, despite me nearly drowning it twice and it generally being put to some hard use. It had panel damage and was needing a bit spent on it for a noisy diff, leaking power steering etc but was still going well, and it had all the fruit. So my days of D2 ownership are over for now- I'd have one again, but not until I'm living back in town. Going to bank some of the insurance $$ and buy a bomb to tow the boat around out here. Thanks to all the help people have given with fixing bits and pieces.. all the best

sorry to hear you have lost your disco it is the 2nd d2a i have seen/ heard do this, rhf spring perch/ bracket tears out of the rail. factory welds were insufficient in the one i saw, was repaired and gussetted correctly and since done a further 150k, even spent 4 months in the nt recently for work.

pity you couldn't get a second opinion before they condemned it....

I'd be getting opinions on this, examples of it happening and being successfully repaired etc before allowing them to write it off. I've managed to argue my way through the last two no fault accidents I've had (t-boned and a kangaroo) which has seen 9K & 8k spent on body repairs added to which theres another 6K for the auto and winch that were killed by mechanical incompetence. All when it's only insured for 13K in total. No one wants to see a landie go to heaven especially when it's pretty minor.
