if it makes any difference i have a manual gearbox...thanks
Hi all,
i'm in the process of taking out my head (rising oil level) and was wondering if anyone can tell me how to make a crank locking pin. i have used a drill bit for the cam locking but unsure about crank, looking at pictures on other threads it has a step in it. i was wondering what others have used or is it best to buy proper tool.
since having my 2002 disco i'm becoming quite the diy mechanic. Hopefully i haven't bitten off more than i can chew this time, i'm a bit nervous.
just want to say that these forums and the associated tutorials together with the rave have saved me a lot of dosh!...thanks.

I ground the end of a bolt to the smaller size after having used a drill bit to determine the required diameter.

I got a set of the Laser locking pins locally - they were under $20. At that price it's hardly worth stuffing about trying to fab them.
I lock mine(auto) with a drill shank first in a modified air fitting.
It's as per the Haynes manual.
If I remember right it was a barbed fitting for putting a hose on.
Cut the barb off and then used the drill to open up the hole.
thanks for the feedback all...ordered a set today from Sydney, was $23 should arrive tomorrow.
Hi Paul
Do you have a part number and where they were bought? Thanks Ollie
The pins are Laser Tools pn# 4052:

I got mine from British Car Components in Nth Melbourne (British Car Components - spares and parts for British cars, Melbourne Victoria, Australia) but they seem to be sold by one of the major LR parts distributors so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting them from your local LR specialist. If you have trouble finding them British Car Components do mail order, you'd just need to call or email them.
