99 CDL operation - etc off?

Had a good look at my brother's D2 last night. Ex-forestry vehicle, 2 inch lift (SRS lifted), ARB bar, 12,000lb winch, lpg, push button CDL.

We went for a bit of a play and the traction control wouldn't work.

From what I've read if you turn the CDL on when the motor is going it should keep the ETC on. If you then turn it off, then start it up again, the abs and tc light should stay lit and the abs and etc will stay off. But what happens on the pushbutton CDL. I assume they're and electronic plunger, but do they turn the CDL off when not energized, or are the 230Q like the older LT230's in that the ball detend will keep the CDL on?

    Also what is the LT230SE?

When I was driving it around there was only the CDL light on the dash, and I could feel the valves opening and closing for the ETC but it just had no 'bite' to it. Occassionaly of very slippery clay the rear axle would work properly (which was pretty much like a difflock - quite impressive). There was also an instance where it locked the passenger side front wheel.

I'm assuming it's a pressure problem, maybe from the return pump?

He also has a single point lpg system where they've plumbed the rocker cover vent pipe straight into the air box, which has clogged up the airflow meter. Not very clever at all.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Push button CDL is some kind of aftermarket actuator. A stock 99 D2 would have had the CDL internals but no means of operating from in the cab.

AMV do/did a kit that used an electric window motor or something similar. Someone might know whether these self disengage.

Do you get the ETC ABS and HDC lights on the dash when you first turn the ignition on?

You'll know if the ETC is working - it is a very obvious clatter, much more so than just feeling valves operating. You should also see the ETC light come up on the dash for a minimum of 2 seconds if it's running.

    cheers
    Paul
