Hi Pete.
Did you do the Washers with Factory LR Washers or just the O Rings?
if it an early or update engine?
cheers
Matt
Hi All,
i have rising oil level due to fuel getting into oil. i have changed the injector seals and problem still persists. have had the head tested and told was ok (tested with liquid at 500psi) Was thinking the problem might be a faulty injector. After talking to a prominent landrover spares supplier he told me that he has never seen or heard of a td5 injector failing or leaking, and that the prob was more than likely an undiagnosed crack in the head as the crack would only come into play at operating temp.
i read on a previous post about a chap that fixed his rising oil levels by getting injectors tested and found to be leaking.
the head guys are going to heat up my head tomorrow and re-check for leaks.....just wondering if anyone can shed any light or share experiences.
regards
Pete

Hi Matt, the engine is the ue3 and the injector washers and o rings were landrover original parts

Pepi have you seen where the diesel leaks on a cracked TD5 head?
It has nothing to do with the coolant galleries etc not sure how they tested your head.
The cracks usually happen on the injector bores toward their tops this seems quite common in 2003 -2004 models
I have heard of dribbling injectors melting pistons on TD5s but its uncommon.
Hi Djam1, the head guys fitted the injectors and blanked off the outlet then pressurised from the fuel reg feed hole into the head, they havent looked at coolant galleries as the problem is fuel in oil.
cheers

Ok sorry wasnt sure this might help explain it at least

Not sure 500 PSI is a good thing
Thanks, at least i know what a cracked head might look like.

If you have to replace it use an AMC head they are much thicker in that area
Probably from Turners in the UK
I have previously had a leak from where the solenoid mounts to the injector housing, it was not immediately noticeable, but I thought there was a bit of movement, so I pulled the injector out & one of the 2 allen keys was a little loose by about 3/4s of a turn, I ended up undoing both of the screws, the solenoid then comes off & there is an oval shaped O ring which was slightly cut, I tried my best to get a replacement but without any luck. I ended up sealing the 2 outer faces with Hylomar 3400 (it is the sealant you use for the cam carrier when you refit a TD5 head) and refitted the bolts with a bit of locktite & to date it is holding up perfectly.
As I couldn't find a new oval O ring I was tempted to replace the injector but thought I would give it a go with the sealant & it worked a treat.
I also pulled all of the other injectors & checked the bolts & they were all OK, from memory I do not think you can check them in situ, you need to remove the injectors to get your allen key into the bolts.
I have had leaking injector in my D2 Td5, it was 4th injector and eventually only way to find it was using soap water and pressure. Then they did send that injector to special diesel workshop to see if it can be fixed.. but that didn't work, so I had to buy second-hand part. I haven't ever heard what was the problem in first place![]()
This came just after 2nd washer and O ring chance (in a few months), when they fixed my Head gasket.. I have a feeling at that injector failed some how then! Actually now I have a feeling at it's happening again (diesel in the oil) but I have to follow this short time more![]()
Kind Regards
Mika
