I bought a welder and built my own rock sliders/side step/tree hugger combination after fitting the LRA White Tiger Stage 2 flares and larger tyres - the bigger tyres were hitting on the old rock sliders and they were too long after the guard cuts.

The reason I was asking about the APT Fabrications product is that in comparison they seem a bit 'lighter'. I'm not trying to be rude towards Ben, I met him last year when I called into his workshop and purchased his shock towers - great guy and a nice setup - and I'm sure he probably knows what he's doing - so perhaps mine are overkill. But as you can see with mine instead of nutserts I have used M12 bolts all the way through with nylocks on the other side. I have nutserted the underside (as didn't want to drill all the way into the cabin) and used M6 bolts there (the slider rails are below the bolt heads so shouldn't be an issue with them catching).
My L plates that cover the sills are either 6 or 7mm thick and the SHS is 3mm.
It looks like with the APT ones the sill is boxed in, I didn't do this due to the lip and instead used an outer slide rail setup.

My next step is to cover the top in aluminium tread plate. I priced it up the other day and it's only available in 2400 x 1200mm sheets (which is obviously far more than I need) in 0.9, 1.6mm or thicker. I think 0.9mm will be too thin and am looking at trying out the 1.6mm.

I like the square ones and my next design will be square as well. my TF a sliders on the Defender took a good hit at Climes and show the limitations of the round design. Mark with the 130 and square sliders hit the same rock and it only scratched the paint. Attachment 89724Attachment 89725

what I did not like on ATP design is that the Disco sills are weak and the U design uses them to anchor the sliders (from memory with only 4 x 6 or 8 mm bolts). Ben (who is a very nice guy) made a custom set for my cut arches but even though I sent images and all measurements they where reversed (longer in rear) so without hassle Ben took them back (great service from ATP)

Never seen a dented disco sill with good sliders mounted under sill....

It's showing the limitations of TerraFirma ****.
I'd be willing to say that it wouldn't have happened on a set of quality sliders.
And you say you don't like that they mount to the sill....
Where else exactly would you like them to mount?
Chassis? Where they flex like crazy and you bend them up into your door?
As per Scott, have seen one or two Discos where big (and I mean BIG) hits have bent the sill upwards slightly, but never dented. Plus if you do manage to do that, a bar in between the box section and the nerf bars and they easily bend back into shape.
Food for thought.

What are peoples thoughts on the blunt ends, on the nerf bars, compared to curved / angled ends ?

That huge gap looks awful :)

Personal preference, ALTHOUGH, I worry about potential hook up with blunt ends if way too close to something. I know that by that stage you are denting guards but I still don't like the idea of hook ups. Cheers

Yes agree with TF stuff would not buy any again, square has higher side impact resistance the round though, yes also agree ideally I have ATP design with another square inside the U which sits tight against the top. My DPL sliders have not bent upwards yet and have had quite a few proper nocks Attachment 89786Attachment 89787

I like the look of the APT stubby sliders.

I reckon that, if they don't stick out so far, they'll hook-up less and, if they are hitting less logs and rocks, they are sure to bend less and mess-up the sills less too.
If they do make contact, is seems to make sense that, if the contact point is closer to the car, there will be less leverage applied and therefore less potential damage to either the slider itself or the sill.
Has anyone got any experience with the stubby design or any further general comments about the APT fit & finish?
