Here's my take on them. Set me back about $280- all up for materials, fasteners and tooling for retained nuts.

Sits under the sill, uses the original holes along the face of the sill with rivnuts and button head cap screws and 4 large cap screws underneath, the heads are recessed into the bottom so there's nothing to hang up on.

Added the extensions later, just a 90deg at each end and straight tube between

I put together a set for myself costing about the $150 mark.

Things to look at are a slight curve is needed to match the door line if it concerns you.
Some attach to the chassis others to the sil.

I ended up making 4 stirrups of 4 mm flat bar about 100mm wide, 2 bolts per stirrup that go all the way through the sil, then clamp the stirrup to the sil.

I made mine a little wider then needed for the kids, although it is nice to watch people swing there door into the disco and you hear a dull gong sound. Knowing that they have slammed the door into the sliders and not the vehicle .

Overall as a 100kg man jumping up and down on them they are rock solid, rock slider??? using the sil perhaps not, but they will definately beef up the protection over the standard plastic.

You can use a high lift under the edge of mine without movement. I've landed a big hit once and twisted the sill but a bar in between the outer tube and actual protector bent it back. It wouldn't have mattered how it was made for that tough, something was going to give.

I've been doing some casual work for a friend installing non slip stair nosing, they use alluminium extrusion which they fill the grooves that would otherwise have rubber inserts with a carbumdium/resin mix. I'm working out a mixture that doesn't slump as much to allow me to have a "paint-on" non skid finish. Can be mixed to any color (even black) or glow in the dark.

Has promise as it will last forever as long as I can get a decent key to the steel and can even be painted over with minimal effect on grip. Hoping to come in at <$20- for enough for a vehicle treatment, in are size for example my coverage measures about 8lm x 110mm across. Which I think is pretty cheap, especially when you consider it's pretty much one stage and it's done just about forever.

I bought some rock sliders second hand from Triumph rover spares. I think maybe around the $300 dollar mark including postage though cant remember exactly.

    Hi Trevor,
Do your sliders attach to the chassis or sil?

They look identical to the set I made (referring to the post in the D2pics)
