Yeah, amazing what WD can do - a few quick sprays into the mechanism and no worries.
I've also got a broken rear seat fold down lever that I'll have a look at today. Basically the red plastic piece that shrouds the cable end has snapped off. Guess I'll need a replacement part- does anyone know where I'd get one

I have seen them new and second hand on Evil-bay. though the complete cable not just the shroud

The problem is largely caused by dust getting into the mechanism. WD tends to attract dust, which eventually makes the problem worse. I sprayed mine from inside, by taking the lining off (carefully!) and also by removing the Land Rover badge from the external handle as Ballbag says. Also sprayed into the latch mechanism. Used a spray can of contact cleaner. When the lot seemed pretty clean, opened and close the door three or four times then cleaned again. Then dosed it liberally with graphite powder (get this from most motoring shops - Supercheap, Autopro etc. This lubricates well but doesn't attract dust. Also wedged some sponge foam up into the external handle to stop dust getting into the cavity of the door. This worked well - door latch works smoothly (car has 270K) and it didn't give any problems on a recent trip out to the Simpson over heap of bull dusty roads (3600 km of mostly gravel, clay, dirt and sand roads over 8 days).
The door lining is held on by little red plastic spikes that slide into slots in the liner backing and push into holes in the door frame. You need to get something thin and flat very close to each spike and lever gently. I broke about three - but got replacements from British Off Road ($1.75 each!). So it's not a problem if you bust a few!
This process also works well on the other doors.

I'm a new d2 TD5 owner too (99 auto model, 240000kms, although I think the (replacement) engine has done 400000). I had the engine mounts changed and the resonance at 2200 rpm remains. There have been other threads discussing what causes it from lots of other owners with the same issue -possibly harmonic resonance at that rpm from the exhaust plus driveline-I have no idea; just not engine mounts in my case. Also my uni joints are newish, greaseable, so not that either I suspect (and i've just had the transfer case overhauled), but I'm not the most mechanically minded! My car also has a 2 inch lift, if that is of any relevance to the issue but I suspect not?
All the best with your new purchase. The rear door certainly likes to let in dust around the handle and the pin which it swings on-on a recent trip out to Innamincka/Flinders the old timers were telling me to keep the aircon on and not open the window, as that apparently keeps the car from sucking in dust at the back. This may be an old timer's tale, but worth a try.

Cool - will give something to do today!!! I've seen others mentioning that the studs on the door trims break easily.
I've done a bit of driving on the duct around Menindee lakes, the guys there all drive TD Pajero's and reckon put the fan on 3 with the vents open and the A/c on. It seemed to work but personally I'd never own a Mitsu!!!
I definitely agree with warren as my case I have to clean it every time after riding across the dirt and dust. I have not replace my at the moment, will definitely wait till it play up a little bit more.Quote:
