Anyone using Bridgestone D697's on their d2?

The Michelin Latitude Cross tyres I've been running have proven themselves to be completely out of their depth on rocky outback roads. I've destroyed two in the current trip.

The Corner Store (the go to mob for tyres in Tibooburra) managed to source a Bridgestone D697 from Sydney for me in LT235/70r16, and it seems to have survived the trip around to Arkaroola with minimal marking or cuts to the tread blocks. In comparison the Michelin on the other rear wheel has chunks breaking off the tread blocks and suffered a rock puncture the has left a barely reparable hole in the middle of the tread, and rendered the tyre usable only as a "limp to next town" spare.

Anyway I'm curious if anyone has experience with the D697's over the longer term. I'm pretty keen to keep the standard section/profile and the fact the D697 has a LT in this size is appealing.

    Cheers
    Paul

We had 245/70-16's D697's on the D2, replaced the OE Michelins, the car steered nicer, gripped better, especially in the wet, and rode a lot nicer. Had less punctures offroad (0 infact), however they suffered the same onroad with regards to nails etc. Wouldn't have lasted as long, however they are now enjoying their second life on my buggy trailer.

Yes, I would recommend them for a nice road going AT.

    Cheers

Yes the Michies are only a road tyre , No offroad strengths at all apart from sand! A mate has the D697's on his '10 triton and although he does very little offroad apart from Fraser they appear to be wearing well and he is happy with handling. I think he has done about 45k on them now and appear to be good for that again.

Hi Paul. I am away and have limited access at the moment, but thought I saw a thread on 697's just the other day (albeit maybe not D2 specific). They are on the top of my tyre list at the moment, so I too will be interested in feedback. Cheers

Quite a few people have fitted D697 in the only LT tyre available as basically stock 18" for D3 & D4s and so far seem to be more than satisfied. If the reports are still positive by the time I need new ATs I'll get them in LT265/65-17 for my D4.

Yes the d3 guys seem happy and someone else just did a report of outback trip with positive reviews.
I will be looking at the 245/70/16lt soon, good price aswell in Sydney.
How is the rest of the trip?

    Hi Paul,

I'm not running the 697, still on the older 694's, but they have treated me well. We have recently finished a trip from Adelaide - Innaminka - Birdsville - Boulia - Alice - Oodnadatta. Did about 7000km, no problems with the tyres at all. Rotated them last week, fronts perfect, rears starting to heal and toe wear on the inside and have some cuts and small chips but I kept the pressures on the high side of what I would consider ideal as we were towing a loaded camper. The 697 have improved tread on the shoulders to help reduce the heel and toe wear.

Some of the roads were pretty rocky and corrugated so I was impressed with the tyres. Others with us on the trip had bfg and Coopers, they were both as chipped as the bridgestones.

    Cheers,
    Nova

Forgot to add, mine are 245/70R16, have now done about 30k and still probably 10k left in them.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to track down another tyre tomorrow otherwise I'll be sticking to the bitumen until the end of the week.

Trip has been good apart from the tyre issues.

Only mechanical issue has been that the rear diff seal has started leaking on the second day.

Spent a few days at a NSW parks hut in the NE part of Sturt NP which is accessed by 20km of management tracks that run over gibber plains in places.

Ive actually been pretty happy with the Latitude Cross, and have done close to 40k km on them and they are still at about 60% tread. The only times I've had dramas were the two punctures this trip and one on a trip to Arkaroola two years ago. Aside from that they have been fine for driving tracks and poking around the bush.
