How Long Can & Will They Last?

					Hi Folks,

Changing a small hose on my 2000 V8 (13 years old) recently I was wondering how long the old girl will last as an everyday mode of transport.

Unless a major engine or gearbox failure occurs, I reckon for sometime yet, but admittedly it does not do long trips.

I'm very confident in the cooling system, engine okay at the moment, but auto gear box...who knows.

If it did do longish trips often then I reckon the engine would be the weak point (280k).

Food for thought.

Cheers, Jerry

At 280k its a keeper. The bottom end should be in excellent condition if never overheated and regular oil changes. The heads should be fine also. I dont see why you shouldnt see 350,000k if well looked after - dont know if by then she might be down on power (compression down, cam worn etc). It will owe you nothing by then so a re-build or a 4.6 is a relatively economical upgrade. I went new cam (2 up) and some port matching on my 4.0 and at 221k it goes like stink and runs like a dream. My D2 Manual had a bearing noise so I got the box re-conditioned at 200,000 because I was looking at a reliable vehicle, nice and quiet to drive (except the V8 roar from high flow cats and muffler!!!) for the next 10 years.
My auto D1 has 290k on it all stock and original engine and box.
Cheers
