I own a 2002 D2 petrol V8 ES stock standard. Nice vehicle, had it about 18 months.
Every time I drive it - I like it even more.
About 10 days ago it started to miss under load during acceleration, so I did a mental check list starting with blocked injector. Simple fix I think and purchase a bottle of injector cleaner and pour it into the tank and wait for the magic to happen.
No magic....
So I think it has to be plug/s or plug lead/s or both. I look at the engine bay and decide very quickly it's a job for my (usually) very clever mobile mechanic. He has never let me down over many years and many types of cars. So he calls at my place late in the afternoon with evening and rain looming and proceeds to change the leads and plugs.
He is a smallish fellow with smallish hands but he had the very devil of a job changing said leads and plugs. Getting his hands down the back of the motor to reach the coils and unplug the leads almost beat him but to his credit he soldiered on for three and a half hours in the rain and dark and finally finished. The leads we're partly perished and were falling apart on removal and I thought this has to be the problem, the leads were probably arcing at or around the coils. So he jumps in the D2 to start it and I wait for the magic to happen. (What we didn't know at this stage was he had unknowingly switched two of the leads. Groan.)
No magic....
The engine ran like it was before. Hhhhhhhmmmmmm!
Ok, so it has to be the MAF sensor or an Oxy sensor or something more sinister. It's time for the dealer.
Take the vehicle to Rangie in Frankston (coughing and spluttering) and leave it for an unknown period of time for appraisal and quote.
The guy from Rangie calls me next morning and says problem solved, a couple of leads had been switched - also the MAF sensor was a bit dicky. So I tell him to change the sensor and he says pick up the D2 at 11am. I picked up the car and drove home.
There was the magic. It ran like a dream.
He charged me $250 for the MAF sensor and $105 for labour. My mobile mechanic charged me $317 for spark plugs, plug leads, air flow filter and one hour labour.
All in all I'm happy to be back in my Disco.

I dislike the fact that Bosch MAFS for LR, BMW etc are almost a service item if you want to the engines to run at optimum....
