It would be difficult to go past genuine. Unless you were unhappy with the ride of course. Koni or Bilsteins will be firmer than what you have now.
G'day all.
Just a quick question regarding shocks. My Disco has it's original shocks and the vehicle has done 87000km's. I am wondering what are the best brand of shocks to replace my originals. I do not go off road, it is purely a tug for our van. It is standard height and the only mod being polyairs in the rear springs.
Suggestions?

Robbo

I have terrafirma all terrains and they ride ok. I also know these are the same shocks MR Automotive are putting in vehicles that need replacing.
I got all five delivered from the UK for $330. They retail for $127 each in Australia.

Yesterday I fitted a set of Monroe TMT 4x4 shocks. They are twin disc technology and low pressure gas , and sell for AFAIR $232 per pair for fronts and $248 for rears on ebay.
They have a three year warranty and are made in OZ.
Seeing they made /make ? OME shocks I expect them to be reliable.
On the test drive today I was impressed with the ride as they seemed fiormer than the old 140KK shocks but not harsh.
I think they will be perfect.

GENUINE original shocks are a far better prospect for your case robbo. although if carrying some serious drawbar weights i would consider std height bilsteins as they have better control under duress than the factory non gas ones.
i've been fitting genuine lr puma shocks recently to some early defenders as they are gas charged, and of very good quality. good results so far
don't skimp on shocks, many have found this out the hard way. the joy of a cheap price is soon forgotten with the arrival of poor performance, and warranty means zilch when suffering a failure in a remote part of this country, or if buying from overseas.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
I have been experienced lr ones new wben I bought my d2. They were good. Since then I got dobinson. They were a little better and harsher and with 85000 they still dampen well but with a 2 tonn boat on the back and 200kg of noseweigh plus 100kg in lpg, recovery gear etc they are getting tired. I was looking to see if EFS do their new uber shock in Discoland but they dont so I have gone with Bilstein to suit up to 45mm lift and Dobinson stock + 20 springs which with the coilrites in the rear should be a very nice setup. My brother sells and fits suspension and does conversions from road vehicles to full comp trucks. He likes the new efs but reckons for an off the shelf shock its hard to go past Bilstein for performance and sheer life. I will report back after next Fri when its all fitted.
Cheers
