    Question Auto Gearshift Knob removal

    hi all,
I need to remove the bezel (shroud) around the auto gearshift lever in my 2001 TD5 and before I can remove it I need to remove the gearshift knob first. I have looked in Rave and it says 'remove the knob' ... great
No mention of how to do this.
Looking at the lever, there seems to be a sleeve over the shaft between the base and the knob (this is starting to sound dirty ) but it does not appear to be able to slide either up or down to expose some way of releasing the knob ie. a grub screw or the like, and I don't think the knob unscrews due to the locking pawl..... got me a bit stumped .. and I don't want to force anything.
Can anyone please advise how this knob should be removed

Just pull the knob straight up. Pull hard, sure, but just pull. It won't break.

To remove, move the selector to "D" and pull up, hard, you need both hands. It will let go suddenly, so try not to smack yourself in the head when it does.

To reinstall, move the selector to "P" and push down. Or more accurately give it thump with your palm.
Make sure you select "P" as you can damage the detent on the lever if you refit in any other position.

Make sure you do not twist it in the process of trying to remove it, you will break it.
