Those hoses only have a limited lifespan, they look like pre 2002 reinforced fabric model hoses to me. You can tell the better half this is NO fault of the car:p. It needs to be serviced regularly like ANY vehicle, by someone who knows these vehicles. You wouldn't send the 'rok to the local servo for its servicing would you? :o

and once you're on top of it, its easy to stay there...
and you'll know every quirk of the vehicle...

Brand new 'rok vs 7+ yr old D2..
Hardly fair to compare...
Hi Dave,
Is this the low water alarm sensor you mention? Dave's Interesting Things - ESS12TDV
Will give the shop a call tomorrow for the 'secret heater hose'. Dave is that exactly what the lads at the shop call it?
Right I think I am all ready to wait for parts to turn up and then I can get started.
Tony:)
Doesn't matter what water alarm you put in, as long as it does the job ;)
As an example, I didn't put the coolant cap on properly (I know, I know) and lost about 5L of coolant. Thankfully most of that was in the parking lot, but still. I had no idea, and I was caning it as I was late for uni. If my spidey senses hadn't tingled, I would have run it dry and cooked the motor.
And if you're dealing with a Land Rover familiar workshop like MR, and put Td5 and Secret heater hose in the same sentence, they'll know what you're talking about.
Good luck mate :)
Cheers

"Secret Heater Hose" is a short hose that runs between the oil cooler and the metal coolant pipe that runs across the back of the motor. It's "secret" because you can't really see it until you take off the turbo heat shield.
For "grown ups", the part number for the hose is PBH101980 - HOSE - HEATER TO OIL COOLER.
Called MR first thing this morning and spoke with Luke. He knew the part very well and will get it shipped. Knew exactly what I was talking about.
Thanks again guys for the help on this problem. Looking forward to getting it fixed and on the road.
