If you want to self identify as "not grown up" that is your prerogative.

Pet names for parts is fine on the forum - although it's really just a "I'm one of the cool kids" thing, that explains neither what the hose is, nor where it is located. In other words not particularly helpful, because you need to already know about the hose to know what is meant. The vast majority of parts sellers will look at you as if you are an idiot if you ask for "secret heater hose".

    Yes please
I'm officially not a teenager in two weeks, I'm cramming as much juvenility in while I can.
    As such...

Growing old is mandatory...............................Growing up is optional!!!!

Men and boys differ only in the size (and cost) of their toys!

Although I do acknowledge your point in needing to know the actual item 1 is needing for the aforesaid toy!

    Cheers Scott

The knowledge of the Td5 'Secret hose' is in the same category as the '3 amigos' IMO...

Then in about a weeks time someone else will post up another thread asking "my td5s down on power and belching black smoke" and you get to come up with "heeeey, I just did that, heres how you do it and while your at it you might also want to check...... and these are the tools I used to do it all, If you're not too far away Im happy to lend a hand...."

    And thats about it.
Most detailed and funniest post I've read in ages... AGES!!

Well done. You captured everything I've felt myself since joining the forums and purchasing a D2.

It's obviously a widely known term for that hose.

Try googling "secret heater hose" or "hidden heater hose" or "secret hidden heater hose" or my favourite "the secret hidden heater hose no-one knows about" . The only results you'll get that are even remotely relevant to the Td5 are a handful of posts made by Dave on AULRO.

Not saying that's a bad thing but you can't assume that it's well known outside AULRO readership.

    Trust me on this one.
X2 on the low coolant alarm, saved my bacon after I replaced hose to the water pump & didn't tighten the clamp enough . An independent water temp. sensor is another gizmo to think about, the fitted temp sensor is hardly ideal. There are a number on the market, a member here makes one. I agree with removing the heat shield, makes it so much easier to keep an eye on what's happening under there, also easy to check the tension on the exhaust manifold nuts. Still to find out if it stuffs up the bonnet lining. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

So you're telling me I can't walk into my local dealers in an Inspector Clouseau trench coat and hat, and ask for "the secret heater hose"

What you say is certainly true, but if you went to a Land Rover specialist and said you were after a heater hose that lots of people don't know about, and gave even a general description of it, it would be fair to know that they at least had an idea of what you're on about
