I have a Discovery 1 OEM winch tray STC8896AA which I would like to install on my 2001 Discovery 2
Does anyone has the required brackets layout / cutout (need measures to fabricate those brackets).
I uploaded pictures as a reference.
I had the bigger version of that (with 'A' bar) on my 98 Disco. It's now on my 83 RRC, with new mounts.
It probably would bolt straight up to the D2, as long as the plastic bar doesn't interfere with it, but the chassis rails are the same width and mount holes have the same alignment AFAIK.
Any particular reason you are making new brackets?
Cheers
Will

Reason: Stupid iPhone thinks it can spell better than me...
Yeah they're a completely different design. But... Both bars will bolt up to either chassis, they have the same hole pattern and widths. It's how they work around the bumper bar which is different.
In my opinion they're both rubbish, ruin the approach angle and are absolutely hideous, mine was free, as was the Warn winch, so I used it on the D1 (it had airbags so I didn't mod it), but on the Rangie I made new bar to chassis brackets and mounted it higher. As a result I haven seen a winch bar with a better approach angle unless its all mounted flush, I've attached a photo for interests sake.
The general gist of my original post was implying that the bumper bar would probably be a lot easy to modify than the winch bar (you'll be doing this anyway), and it should bolt on to the chassis.
Thanks for the info, very helpful.
Down here they give you a hard time trying to build a custom bumper and have it installed, Ministery of transport...
I was thinking about a hidden mount but I don't like not having a full access to the winch for maintenance.
Only options are buying an ARB for 2000 USD (don't fall from your chair... It's for real) or go with the "genuine" / stock winch mount...
Buying the mount is very expensive as well, so I assumed I will buy a D1 tray for cheap and fabricate the brackets... Thus seeking an exact drawing of those...
We have similar issues here, hence New South Wales is called the Nanny State.
Have you looked into importing an ARB from the states? I'd say they'd be half the price, just depends on shipping. My Td5 Discovery has an ARB bar, however the winch isn't fitted at the moment ('83 RR is the play toy).
One thing I can tell you is that if you go down the custom mount route, keep in mind the winch tray is 25mm wider than the chassis. This is spaced out with crush cans and the design of the brackets. I'm just telling you incase you design your own, mine has 2 10mm plates with 24mm holes for recovery shackles added as spacers, yours will be different due to the crush cans though.
In my opinion the Land Rover design is quite lacking, maybe you can design something better? Mine just incorporated the tube wings with the brackets for a little extra protection and to dress it up.
