3 amigos repeat offender
My three amigos lights are coming on all the time,I reset with the nanocom and they reappear , usually when going slow over bumpy road or turning slightly left,I have replaced the offending abs sensor although the one I removed tested out ok on a multimeter, its the rear left, the wheel bearing seems ok, no freeplay have checked the electrical connections, brakes dont squeal,
abs modulator has been done
any ideas anyone?
the fault is always one of two things, usually "intermittent output" or "electrical failure", it is driving me slightly up the wall, maybe there is a connection somewhere i'm missing, any help would be appreciated
cheers james

A member who sold his Disco recently had the same thing happening to his.
His code was in the front the wheel sensor, open circuit from memory.
The sensor was replaced and all good for 2 days
Being short of time the Disco was sent to the experts for further investigation.
He ended up with another new sensor with a the long cable fitted that was then wired back to the controlling computer.
This has cured the problem.
Cheers, Kyle.

I guess I would like to confirm what the problem is before going to that amount of effort,
unfortunately that is proving somewhat difficult, it looks like the abs cable goes into the loom and then runs above the chassis,I would have to replace a few metres of cable to bypass it all, am wondering if its still something on the hub thats not apparent, i.e. noisy bearing or such.

I'm hearing you, a lot of work for no guaranteed outcome.
I'd also be checking the ABS computer earth point.
There is some behind the LH kick trim and I think it's one of those.
I haven't got my RAVE with me to check.
Test the rear sensor from the computer end so it also includes the loom in the test.
If possible get some one to wobble the wires and bounce the Disco while doing it.
The bumpy road you mentioned hints at a loose or broken wire to me now you eliminated the bearing.
Let us know what you find cures the issue when you find it please.

If it was an earth why would it always be Lhr sensor?
although these cars have many "features" that no one else has been able to replicate
,I suppose, i.e. oil traveling forwards "into the wind" through electrical wires to contaminate the ecu, clever stuff.
Tonight i'm thinking 3 strategically placed bits of electrical tape may indeed be the solution

I would pull the sensor out of the hub and check down the hole to make sure the tone ring is clean - that gave me intermittent faults when grease got into it.

It appears there is a problem with the connection plug for the "short" abs wires,ie the plugs on the inner guard for the front and the 1s at the rear. If the plugs break contact due to vibration or moisture or whatever the Faults circuit is triggered. By replacing them with the long cabled sensors this problem point is eliminated. See a previous post by Offtrack regarding the landrover bulletin for this

I had a similar issue, but LHF not LHR. Pulled the wheel sensor out & cleaned it rigorously inside with a paintbrush & cleaned all the metallic swarf off the sensor, & no further problems since (fingers crossed)

well I thought I had fixed it,
put the car in gear with the wheel jacked up,wobbled pretty bad, found some dirt jammed under the rotor on the axle, brakes were wobbling and squeaking, cleaned dirt off, reassembled , runs truely and quietly, went for a drive but the amigoes are still with me,the thing is they only ever get triggered when going slowly, never when going over 40 or 50,
is this likely to be the pickup inside the diff at fault, since when it is going faster it may get enough signal to stay happy?
just a thought
cheers james
ps. I probably have fixed the vibration at 110kmh though

Yesterday i removed the abs sensor again,
its an aftermarket one and has been rubbing on the reluctor ring,
yay,
I am really pleased that parts companies still feel that it is ok to sell these and the td5 rotor filter that can't spin, its fantastic p.r.
Anyhow there is now oil in the sensor hole in the diff, didn't notice it before, and it was jet black ,so I dropped the oil in the diff which surprisingly came out looking brand new, and have since refilled it, anyway a quick search has led me to believe there should not be any oil in there,
I realise that I may be in trouble anyway now as the reluctor ring may be damaged and I may need to replace the whole hub, hope not though as there was only the slightest of damage on the sensor, anyway is this oil in the hole enough to throw out the sensor reading?
