V8 MAF Sensor

I am yet to top off so I can do a correct fuel check... but... I was averaging 22l/100 for low speed suburban driving with a 700kg trailer permanently attached..
I would like to think that this improves a little but I am not expecting miracles...lol

I also need to look at my exhaust... I notice that one Cat has been replaced at some stage before I purchased her... and it is substantially smaller than the original.. I have been told that as it is a "Commercial" vehicle and a 2000 model I can eliminate the Cats without issue...

Just something else to figure out and spend money on...:D

I am not sure about the cats. I think they are required legally. I recently replaced mine with high flow cats...very sweet. I just ordered a Karcraft MAF and keen to install. Mine is now 3.5 years old and its got an off idle flat spot with all new plugs coils and leads and just a little slow and at times jerkey throttle response. ..from my previous experience this should be fixed via new MAF.

Not sure about the V8 but I know with the td5 the earlier models like 2000 didn't have to have a cat converter. Then a change in emission laws and regulations required all cars to have them. My td5 is 2002 and did have the cat but when looking to replace it I had the option of getting one without the cat from an older td5.

If I have to have them I would go with High Flow units... it would be nice not to have to have that expense though... I will check with my Mechanic at some stage...
I am guessing most exhaust systems for the V8 are custom made... I cant see any reason to go with OEM... the weight of the mufflers alone would be horrendous.. let alone the cost.

I really need to finish changing my plug leads as well ..... I only have 2 of the new set on at present... I have been letting my hands heal before doing the rest.. then I should get the full benefit of the new MAF.

I initially replaced my muffler that had a hole in it with a high flow one. Later I replaced the cats when one got a hole with high flow units - 2.5 times the flow of stock. I left the stainless pipe from the factory - they are in good nick. My resonator is still original. From the factor this truck was very quiet. I longed for more noise (but not droning). Now it sounds exceptionally sweet and just right to my ear. Outside it is sweet but not loud loud. When you get up it, from the outside it sounds like a sports V8 and not the sound you would associate with a large truck...

I cant recall the prices accurately - muffler was $140 fitted from memory and the cats were dearer at about $300 fitted.

I got them both done at Capalaba at by a guy I think is excellent just down from Redlands 4WD Centre - he does mostly american muscle cars. I can give you his details if you want. He did my D1 also which sounds excellent. He has noted to me that the Brit alloy V8's always had much more wholesome noise to liberate than their cubes would suggest :D

Those who have bought new MAFs, are they the Bosch unit or aftermarket/OEM?

Massive price difference, but I'm advise that original Bosch unit is the only way to go.

Karcraft ONLY have the Bosch unit... less likely to have any issues that way...

I have tried a few including a genuine Bosch insert that was said to have been the same part number...but it didnt work. I tried one from Webber in the UK (carby legend Webber) and they refunded me and told me it probably wasnt right for Australian conditions when it caused missing and flat spots...genuine Bosch is the only way to go.
