A little to one side but have you thought about trying a V8 transmission controller. Put one on my TD5 and it will easily lock up at 70k on a light load / light throttle.

^ this is not a good idea. The characteristics of the Td5 compared to the V8 require the correct change points and lock up points. Damage will result to the TC internals (Lock up clutch for one) during lockup etc as it is WAY smaller in every way to the V8 version. Basically, The torque pulses of a struggling Td5 in lock up at too low RPM will hurt the converter
jc
Yes Wholesale auto transmission
^Justin, I was surprised to find after my "dumb" 4HP22 in the RRC that the D2 TC lockup keeps locked down to about 70Kmh under light to medium throttle anyway. You have to go over 80Kmh to set it but then it stays in down to much lower speeds.Quote:

I was also surprised and later amused by the antics on hard acceleration where the auto goes 3rd unlocked, 3rd lockup, 4th unlocked, 4th lockup.
Depending on the load 4th unlocked may be more revs than 3rd locked.
It took me a while to work out what was happening and seems a bit dumb in the programming. Surely it should go 3 locked to 4 locked but there you are.

Funny hey Phillip!
and yet kickdown goes straight to lockup,,
and quick! the time difference between a lever down change and a kick is measured in seconds--
Hi Bob, possibly slightly different scenario, yet to be tested.
Chris has a 2003 D2a.
I have a MY94/5 RRC softdash LSE BUT with a D2 MY99 TD5 auto transplant. Wholesale Auto's could not find the appropriate wire in the RRC underseat ex 99 D2 ECU???? when I was getting the unit insalled at their premised, and I eventually said leave it, I have to get back to Perth and will sort it out there. Its possible (albeit unlikely) there are some issues with mating various ECUs, but will know in a few days. Cheers Gavin
Hi, I know this is a very old thread, but did anyone work out how the relays work, or what they do?
I cut wire 32, which through a fault, the wire had a positive voltage while running, but parked. Does the transmission control send the voltage to the valve. When I grounded the wire to the gearbox, nothing happened.
So would the relay send voltage from ecu through a resistor to ground to stop the fault, then ground the wire to the gearbox?
