Good to see you have it sorted.
I got badly stuck in a creek on the cape,luckily the water just came to the bottom of that ECU and no damage was done.
We did find many little fish on the floor once we got out.
The position of the ECu is another 'what were they thinking' when they put it there
Hi JC, I think a little more right foot might have caused the problem. The sand on the bottom was softer than I thought. Either way, the winch saved the day.
Not much point having a 4WD if we don't find out it's limits eh ? I enjoy getting out and about, bound to come to grief from time to time although I must admit, the Disco is taking me to places that I never thought it would.

I have the ECU in the sun and its almost to hot to touch. has been for a cpl of hours now. When I unplugged it I was surprised how much water was in the join between the harness and the ECU, now wonder it was confused. I gave both sides a good dose of WD40 and let it sit for a minute or two and then cleaned it out with circuit board cleaner. Both sides are now getting some warm air to evaporate what is left. I will let it sit for a few days, the carpets need to dry out anyway. I have another vehicle I can use for awhile (Jeeps are what you use when your Landrover is having a hissy-fit, Jeeps don't seem to have as many hissy-fits but Landrovers beat them hands down).
Will keep the forums advised of my success (or lack of it).
OH, I forgot to mention. There are crocs in the Burdekin River but its rare to see them this far up.

Hi Scarry, I did the Cape last year in a D1 V8i towing a camper. Needed a snatch out of the exit of Palm Creek and I almost made it out of Nolans, got the Disco out but lost traction with the trailer still in the water. A quick snatch and we were out of there too with just a bit of water in the trailer floor. (everything was in tubs). It was while I was up there that I met a bloke from Melbourne with a D2 and after talking to him I couldn't wait to get one too. I couldn't fault what the D1 did with the trailer behind it but the D2 does it all even better with a lot less fuss. Still have the D1 though, lol.
I'm hoping the trannie ECU was my problem. The water in the wiring connection suggests it was. I will have it back together in a few days after it has had time to dry out properly so we will see then.

Well I plugged the dried Trannie ECU back in this evening after a bit of time drying out an 'hey presto' all is back to normal again. Thanks justinc and all that offered advise, all very well appreciated.
My next job before I fit it back in place properly is to get some dielectric grease and give the connection plug and pins etc a liberal dose as well as the plug sealing area. That way I should not have to dry it out again in the event I get water into the Disco in the future.
Problem solved. Thanks again everybody and I have learned something as a bonus.

The D2 is a great vehicle,as long as it is serviced correctly with the correct fluids.(lots of good info on here about this)My D2a was by far one of the best vehicle i had ever owned.
In some/many ways i actually like it better than the D4.
Although you can't knock the D4 it is a fantastic vehicle as well,although for remote area travel,a good D2/Deefer would be my choice.
The D4 is a completely different animal to the D2,in every way.
One of my brothers has a 3.5l '93 D1,done around 350K,just done the weaping heads,only major repair,has had it since it was 1yr old.
There is a how-to on here somewhere about relocating the ECU up into the center console. Gets it up a little bit more away from a storm tide event! :o And lets face it, if the water is over the center console you are going to be worrying about lotsa stuff other than an auto ECU!

Hi schuy1, sounds like a good idea. The existing lead is probably long enough to do that as it is. I will probably leave it where it is for now. I am going to seal it a lot better than it originally was and if water still manages to get in then I now know how to dry it out without resorting to driving home in limp mode.

Hi scarry, up until now i have had my D2a serviced by a local mechanic who is a Landrover fanatic. The terms of the warranty that came with the car dictated that I use a registered mechanic to do the servicing or the warranty would be void. I would normally do the servicing myself as that's what I have done with every one of my vehicles since my teens once the warranty has expired. However in this case my mechanic does such a good job and is so Landrover knowledgeable that I will probably keep using him for most of my servicing other than basic greasing etc.
I agree with the D2a being a great vehicle. I have had quite a few different 4wd's since the mid seventies and the D2 comes out on top in every way. Of course being a TD5 gives me the advantage of great fuel economy as well.
