    auto trans leak td5

    G'day everyone,

Its been a while but ive bought another disco 2 last week from another forum member.
Ive got a constant oil leak from the auto from between the pump and bellhousing. I have taken a photo but i cant get it to upload. Can anyone assist with any reason why it would be leaking from there? It actually looks like its coming from the lowest centre bolt which bolts the trans to the bell housing.
If anyone knows how i can upload a photo from a samsung photo onto this post would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Michael.

there is a fine paper gasket between the pump and housing, common to leak i am afraid. trans out and about 30 minutes tops to rectfy. make sure you look carefully at the converter splines and pump drive tags while it is apart and fit a new converter seal.

    Hi Justin,
    Thanks for your reply mate.
Ive already accepted its tranny out. I removed my last one for a converter seal. I couldnt remember if there was a gasket there or not. it was about 3 years ago. Thanks again.

there is only a gasket between the pump and main case, not between pump and bellhousing.

    Well thats a bummer!
I dont think it can be the converter seal as theres no oil in the bell housing. The only thing that comes to mind is the pumps damaged. Is this possible?

there is an oring between the steel pump and the alloy housing it sits in. if this leaks it can seep oil out where you are noticing it. some of the rebuilders actually use a sealant between the pump and bellhousing just in case i have found.

it is much easier to see in this illustration, the splines i was talking about that wear are the ones on the intermediate plate, number 10.

Parts 12 and 11. There is a bolt directly above them this is the bolt the oil is leaking from. It must be that o ring. That makes sense. That bolt is the lowest point and is central. That also explins why the oil is leaking between the pump and bell housing and not inside the bell housing.
    Cheers mate.
