    Disco Test Drive

Test drove 2 Discovery series 2 TD5s today, a manual and an Auto. Loved them both - the manual had ACE, and its true what they say, the cornering was incredible. Hoping to have the new baby by the AULRO social day that KEV has been advertising.

So - anyone want to buy a nice V8?

Which one are you going for Timmo? Auto or manual? I used to be a manual only (only geeks drove autos) but when we got the Rangie the better half wanted an auto, I found out that I find them a lot better in the hard going and wouldn't have it any other way now.
The Series 2 goes even better with a chip mod, the later, and now current, I think have had mods to their chip because even though the same powerplant they are more lively.
Enjoy your newie they are tops!

    Sounds like a nice upgrade

What ever you choose get it nice and dirty when you take it out to play.

RichardK, tell us about the chip mods for the series 2, what does it give you? Are there upgrades for the series 1 disco? What else is worth doing? I am looking at getting a Disco shortly but it won't be long before I start changing things to suit my tastes

I've driven both auto and manual TD5s, and regularly drive a manual model. To tell you the truth I think the auto is a livlier performer because it's supposed to be easier to keep on boost. Also I find that the with the Air con on, performance is sluggish. Bring on the TD6 in the Disco Land Rover are the Kings of making an under powered vehicle.

Can't tell you much about the chips, Rovertech here in Perth do them for around $850, no doubt plenty of others do them too. My mate had his early series 2 done and it certainly made a difference, increases power by around 30% and torque I think about 20%.

Will definately do the CDL, chip might come later, after some other important mods (lift, lights, offroad tyres etc).

Might be a silly question....but.......how do I tell by looking around if the car is fitted with ACE or not, without asking the dealer? Really liked the handling with ACE.
