Yeah, might be. It's the only thing I didn't change as it was running very smoothly when I serviced it. I'm also waiting until I'm in one place long enough before I order an O2 sensor as that went a few hundred km's ago.
One thing I forgot to mention is that when I accelerate hard the revs sometimes pause at 3,000 or 4,000 RPM for a couple of seconds and then continue. Haven't noticed this before either.
It sounds like you need to plug it in to some diagnostic equipment, like a Nanocom, Hawkeye etc. That could take some guess work out if it.

I had a similar experience not long after my 4.0 rebuild at 147k kms.
Ticking noise, everyone told me it was the engine about to blow up!
Turned out to be loose exhaust flange bolts where it connected to the manifold down pipes. Added some spring washes, ticking solved.
Until another ticking/rattling noise started from the Disco. Only occurred when standing/idling but got worse when initially put under load and disappeared again soon after. Again, all the usual suspects came back with "your heads gone, time for another rebuild".
After a fair bit of time spent under the vehicle checking EVERYTHING, I found it to be a cracked stone cover plate behind one of the rear wheels. It was just vibrating against the adjacent part of the brake disc/hub assembly.
Don't always assume the worse. In my personal experience, too many people are too eager to point to major engine problems over smaller issues.

I had a rattle which was hard to track down. Ended up being the heat shield on top of the catalytic converter.

Oh yes, forgot about that other one, but mine was the shield over the big main exhaust box unit. Was there when I had my factory pipe on and all was fine. When I changed my exhaust system it was rattling, just removed it as no longer needed, all good.Quote:

Thanks, I'll definitely check it all out when I change the manifold gaskets this week. I've ordered spark plug leads from Jag Spares in Victoria and some 2nd hand O2 sensors too. Was going to buy new, but was waiting on British Parts of Utah to get back to me. Didn't fancy spending $400 in the interim so hopefully they're good.
Will have to check to see what members around here have a Nanocom once that's done, fair call.
Be prepared to loose some skin and make your offering to the blood gods when changing the plug leads... also make sure you have a pair of extended (angled at the end) long nose pliers. These help to get the ends out to the coil packs and are very useful when the connector comes away and is left in the coil pack... that wasnt a pleasant experience.Quote:

I had my car back from the mechanic with new gaskets. The heat shield also had a crack in the welding which got tapped. It's a lot quieter now although still a bit of a tappety noise on acceleration but not as bad as it was.
Before I went changing the leads and such I also put in a bottle of injector cleaner, and also found a station offering 95 instead of 98. The misfire seems to have vanished or is at least a lot less noticeable.
