    Oil in wiring loom

A mechanic of considerable Landrover experience informs me that I have this problem in my D2 (200K km) and it will have to be addressed. I thank profusely those who have posted on this subject already, as a result I think I now understand the problem, but I do have one question.... how big a job is replacing the loom? Can anyone estimate a dollar value of having a literate mechanic perform the task?

Buy a new one, solder the copper strands at each injector plug, fill with hi temp silicone, close the plugs once sealed and it will never leak again. Just keep cleaning the RED ECU plug with contact cleaner until no more sign of oil.

    JOB DONE

    Cheers

They cost about $80 and it takes about 30 minutes to change. I had mine out twice on a recent trip to Brisbane and back from Darwin.

Just do it yourself. Take off the acoustic cover (3 Bolts), 10 or so bolts out of the tappet cover, It unplugs at the front, whip it out and throw in the new one.

I recommend changing the tappet cover seal at the same time.

Follow these instructions. Mine didn't have oil past the first connector so it didnt make it to the ECU like the this one : www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop /Injector Harness

    Happy Days.

If you are not keen to solder/silicone the loom yourself, you can buy a modified one from various LR dealers around the country. One to try is MR auto, Redcliffe. Bear in mind, there will be residual oil in the engine loom for a while, check the red ECU plug every 5000 kms, until the oil is no longer seen, all good Bob

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

If you are asking about the Engine Harness, I got one from the UK for 155 pounds + 70 pounds freight. Cured many engine management problems. Sometimes the loom gets to the point it is best replaced, but not without the replacing the Injector Harness as well. Not a difficult job, I would say about 2 hours for a decent mechanic to replace the Engine Harness.

I thought it was only the injector harness required. As the previous posted stated the oil will continue to run out of the engine harness for a while and you may need to check the red plug a few times. It's the injector harness that causes the problem.

    Happy Days.

Thanks all. As a result of your posts I am now confident enough to have a crack at this myself!

    Replacing Harness.

Reasonably straight forward if, like me, you are a bit mechanically minded but not worked on cars before. What I did find very useful was to look at the various videos on youtube so that you recognise what you are looking at when you take the rocker cover off. Increased my confidence no end.
    Cheers, Peter.
