Thread: Double Din Head unit

It can be done.
Requires some shuffling of items within the dash (HEVAC controls/display) but it can be done.
Head on over to the D2 boys club forum and do a search in their projects thread, there have been a few efforts.

I did it to mine a few months . I put in an Alpine unit, it sounds way better and has a good size screen for the rear camera. It was pretty easy with a dremel, a bit of epoxy filler and paint. I'm not that good a doing that type of thing but i had no trouble and it looks quite factory.

I looked at that tutorial before i did mine but i only used filler to fill the spots where i cut the plastic fascia.

The original head unit sits on a steel tray that is riveted into the dash, i removed this and bent it to fit the 2din and then replaced it and screwed the 2din cage into the steel tray on the bottom and into the original screw holes in the top.
I also used the rubber mount that screwed into the back of the factory head unit and put it into the new one and it fits in the original hole.

All that made it all really solid and you can fit and remove the head unit as you please then.

I have driven over hundreds of k's on corrugated roads now and it doesn't rattle at all. I don't think the one in that other post would hold up considering all that is holding it is epoxy filler ??

I will take a photo tomorrow, i'm pretty happy with it as i was a bit nervous when i started pulling it apart!!

Here it is , as promised . I think the USB input is really handy where it is , in the top vent !! It is a bit rough around the edges but i did it in a day and was in a rush. I could have easilly done a better job given a bit more time...
