    Suspension advise

I have started looking at suspension kits and have got to a point of asking your advice. I have searched through the forum and can't get an answer.

I have a 2001 Discovery 2, coil spring with ACE. Currently only have a wrap around nudge bar on the front and tow a light camper trailer. I mostly tour on bitumen & dirt with a little high country fun and very little to no rock climbing.

I am looking for up to 2" lift kit, looking for comfort due to a bad back rather than hard weight carrying. So stiff heavy duty suspension are no good to me.

I currently like Terrafirma All terrain or Tough Dog adjustable.

So please add your experiences on aftermarket suspension

Also look at King Springs which are comparatively soft for a lifted spring.

I have Dobsons 40mm lift, comforts in the front and SLS air bags in the rear. Bilstein 7100 shocks with 360/80 valving. With the 16 inch wheels it's unbelievably smooth. I'm very impressed and it still handles well with the ACE.

    Happy Days.

I have the same Disco as you, a TD5 D2a with coils and ACE
I put standard length Bilsteins on and find them great.
Yes, they are not 2" lift but I find them great!

I also put the same standard length Bilsteins on our previous D2a, and found them great as well

I think any shocks will be an improvement at the age of the vehicle, both times when I removed the OEM, the shock would push down and no rebound or damping.

At 230,000 km it feels like the front shocks have lost compression dampening and rear have lost rebound dampening.

I think the springs are sagged as it sits pretty low. Especially as it feels like the front hits the bump stops on speed humps.

    Keep the advice coming. :-)

How did you go with the lift and the SLS? Did you need to extend the sensor arms to accomodate the front springs.. Also.. is the valving the same on the Bilsteins front and rear?
Mine is a V8 with SLS and ACE and does need to be sorted... this sounds like a good setup for what I need.

I fitted Tough Dog non adjustable 41mm and a RTC damper plus tough dog HD springs all round..gained my 2" and a far better drive..I have a steel deluxe winch bar at the front..cupboards in the rear, and a winch to come so although a tad hard in the front currently it will settle with the winch fitment. very happy.

Yeah mate, same valving front and rear on the Billies.

I fitted spacer blocks under the SLS bags. I'll take some photos later.

I did have to fit 20mm bump stop spacers as the shocks bottomed out in the front and the bags bottom out in the rear. So with a 40mm lift, I only gained 20mm of extra upward travel but much more downward travel.

    Happy Days.
