Looking at a d2 Help needed!!

Ahh but now we're getting into splitting hairs, the point is you originally were seeking an auto.
Lets face it, we're not going to agree on auto/manual or Td5/V8.
But we can all agree that the D2 is an awesome vehicle and the OP has made an excellent choice :cool:

absolutely, out of the box, its an excellent turn key solution that will get you through while pulling all the toyotas and nissans behind you.

I thinks it's an idea that we have a thread dedicated to Land Rovers recovering other makes?

A mate has gone from a Disco 1 to a 100 Series Cruiser. I'm in need of some pics and Vid of Disco 2s pulling Toyotas.

You know guys the poster Uber1600 has not been back on this thread since 28/11/2013 as far as a quick glance told me.
So all this mine is bigger than yours is just self indulgence.( or maybe masticating)
I think we have been had by a troll who has hardly asked a question, and is sitting back watching the fun.

I see Uber1600 is interested in a D2, P38 rangies and a 90. Perhaps he's still making up his mind?

Hey guys thanks for the comments. Sorry haven't been on here for a few days been flat out with work. It sounded like that question started alot of arguments. Not my intention at all. I've test driven both cars and like the td5 so looking to find a late model manual one. As I said I'd love that new 90 but I don't think I'll get there. So d2 it looks like the next best option. Good luck with your search mate. I too wanted a manual and I settled for a Auto. If I had the cash I'd now I;d pick up a manual for wrecking.

My advise is hold out for what you want if you can.

Apologies uber1600. How were you to know that any V8 D5 thread will turn to self indulgence?
Just one point on the manual vs Auto.
I think it is generally accepted and well known that turbo diesels and autos are a match made in heaven.
The reason for this is that in a manual you lose boost on every gear change, whereas an auto keeps power on during changes so does not have gear change lag.
The other issue is hill starts . There have been many posts on here over the years about the difficulty hill starting with D5 manuals when towing.
While the auto Torque converter is very "radical fab high stall " which enables the turbo to spool up, the manual requires lots of clutch slip which is NOT GOOD for clutches.
